Stewed Okra

Stewed Okra

One of the best ways to cook okra is to stew it with other vegetables. By this, we mean a gentle braising to tenderize the okra, release its juices, and mingle its flavors with the vegetables. There's no need for a long cooking period, which may result in mushy, greyish okra, although simmering in a stew or soup doesn't hurt its mellow flavor. Tomatoes in general are a fantastic compliment to okra, the acidity of the tomato helps to offset the texture of the okra and the taste brings out the flavor of the okra.

Gardeners' Quotes

ON A SEED

This was the goal of the leaf and the root.
For this did the blossom burn its hour.
This little grain is the ultimate fruit.
This is the awesome vessel of power.

For this is the source of the root and the bud...
World unto world unto world remolded.
This is the seed, compact of God,
Wherein all mystery is enfolded.
